Photo scanning is the process of converting physical photographs into digital images. This allows you to store, preserve, and share your memories more easily
DPI stands for Dots Per Inch. It measures the resolution of a scanned image. A higher DPI means a higher resolution, which results in a clearer and more detailed image. For most photo scans, at 600dpi is typically sufficient
After scanning, photos can be backed up in multiple ways to ensure they are not lost. These methods include:
· USB Drives: A portable storage device that can hold many digital photos.
· External Hard Drives: Larger storage devices that can store thousands of photos.
· Cloud Storage: Services like Google Photos or Dropbox allow you to store photos online and access them from anywhere
Metadata is information that is embedded within a digital image file. It can include details such as the date the photo was taken, the camera used, and other technical data. This helps in organising and finding photos more easily in the future
The quality of your digital images will depend on the DPI setting used during scanning and the quality of the original image. Higher DPI settings result in higher resolution images, which are clearer and more detailed. However, higher resolution images take up more storage space. For most people, a DPI of 300 to 600 is a good balance between quality and file size. We scan photos at 600DPI
